Parent Community Networking Center (PCNC)

Aloha Waikele Ohana and Friends! My name is Kiana, and I've had the privilege of being the Parent-Community Networking Center (PCNC) Facilitator for Waikele Elementary since 2001. Before that, since our school opened it's doors in 1998, I volunteered for the PTA, PCNC, and my children's classrooms. They're now longtime graduates of Waipahu HS.

I'm a 17 hr staff employee, but you'll probably see me around school a lot more than that, especially for events. I help to create supportive partnerships among the home, the school, and the community for the purposes of supporting student success and building a sense of family and community.

We partner closely with HPD's Pearl City Community Policing Team (Internet Safety/Cyber Bully Awareness for Parents/Guardians and for Students), Hawaii Heart Foundation/AED Institute of America, Inc. (CPR/AED Awareness Trainings for staff, students, and families), Scholastic (Book fairs), Leeward & Pearl City Lions Club (Vision Screening), Ronald McDonald (Educational live shows for students), Hawaii Pageant Title Holders (Read Alouds), Kama'aina Kids (After school programs and WinterFest), Pacific Knights Motorcycle Club (Annual School Supply Drive), as well as various kinds of support from Waikele PTSO, Waikele Community Association, Waikele Premium Outlets, Waikele Shopping Center, Papa John's Pizza, Waipahu Community Coalition, Waipahu Complex Schools, Leeward PCNCs, just to name a few. The list will grow during the school year.

I also publish our monthly Family Focus Newsletters; please be sure to look for it in your child's backpack or read it in our website located under the tab 'Parents' then 'Family Focus Newsletters'. There's lots of valuable information in it so you'll know the happenings going on in our school.

I'm also the person to see if you'd like to volunteer for our school. Although not every teacher will need a classroom volunteer, there are other opportunities that will become available as the year goes by. A Volunteer Form will be going home to each student during the beginning of the school year and will always be readily available throughout the year. When volunteer(s) are needed for a special event, I'll go through the Volunteer Forms and match the areas of interest and availability. An hour or two here and there for special events are gladly welcomed!

Volunteer opportunities include, but not limited to: Scholastic book fairs, Picture taking days, Extravaganza, WinterFest, Flu Clinic, Vision Screening, Campus Beautification, Sign Waving, Staff Appreciation Luncheon, Classroom/Teacher/Staff assistance, and Family Focus Newsletter monthly publications.

You may call me at: 307-6100, if you have any questions. My hours vary, but if you see the PCNC room open (door on the right of cafeteria) and I'm inside, please feel free to stop by and chit-chat with me. I may have hot water for coffee or tea brewing!
